A few things have happened since I last wrote just over a week ago. Let’s just say I have been busy 😀
On Thursday, 2nd November, I planned to go to Auckland Museum as the weather was not great. I decided to do the roughly 40 minute walk to the museum from the harbour and hoped to find a nice cafe on the way, where I could have some lunch with a cup of coffee.
I found the Wintergarden cafe from where I could see museum further up the hill. The sun was out so I sat outside. A few minutes later I young woman (Lynn) and an elderly man (Tony) came in to the cafe and chose to sit inside the cafe on the other side of the window next to me. I heard her talking and immediately recognised the accent as DANISH! I decided to go inside and say hi once I had finished my lunch and they were both so nice! Tony, Lynn’s kiwi “grandfather-in-law”, asked me to join them at their table and then after a good conversation, getting to know eachother, he asked if they could go with me to the museum. I had a great time and it was so nice to finally meet someone else and share an experience and coffee with 🙂
Later that day I got an invitation to join her, her partner Ben and some of their friends on their trip to Kawau Island the next day, Friday 3rd November to Sunday 5th November.
We drove up to Sandspit and took a watertaxi to Schoolhouse bay where we were going to stay in a bach by the water.
On the way a huge dolphin followed us right behind the boat and there were stingrays swimming around in the bay! (see below for pictures and video). Regularly, we would also see a kingfisher flying around by the beach in front of the bach 😀
The weather was not great both Friday and Saturday, however we had AMAZING weather Sunday so some of us went in the water and all were enjoying the sun until we had to go home.
It was a great weekend with some drinks, chatting, playing games, walking around on the island and enjoying the weather and each others company and also lots of fireworks!
Hopefully I’ll meet them again some day.
