After Bay of Island, we did a quick stop in Auckland and then continued towards hot water beach where we stayed for one night.
At Hot Water Beach we were staying in a top 10 holiday park which was lovely and had a humorous layout with the names of each “way”/road (see picture above or link for the map below). I signed up for the sea kayaking to Cathedral Cove. It was a little bit scary as the waves sometimes got quite big! ..But it was great fun and a beautiful experience. We wen kayaking both to and from Cathedral Cove starting and ending at Hahei Beach.
For dinner I decided to get the Fish & Chips that you could buy in the family park and I did not regret it! So yummy 😀 While I was waiting for my food and later eating it, I started a conversation with another guy sitting on the same bench and discovered that he was from Australia, travelling alone for two weeks in a campervan and guess what – he has a twin brother. I keep meeting other people who have twin siblings and I find it pretty amazing.
Later in the evening around 22:30-23:00 a group of us decided to walk to the beach. We went on the nicer path to the beach and found glowworms along one side of the path where the was a steep side of a forest. Unfortunately it was basically impossible for me to get proper pictures of them so you will have to see them for yourself one day! Maybe.
Once we reached the beach we went around looking for some of the holes that had been dug earlier in the day during low tide which it now was again. And luckily we found quite a few plus an extra spade which was awesome and made it a lot easier and quicker than to dig out the hole with just one 🙂 Gosh, it was strange. Some places in the holes it was cold, other places it was nice and warm, and then there were places were it was extremely hot and you could stand there for only a few seconds!
I went back with another group that had gone the other way to the beach and therefore hadn’t realised that you could see glowworms in the area. So I showed them the way I had come from with the first group and acted as their guide which was quite funny but cool and fun at the same time 🙂
Sorry, the pictures are not so good this time :/ I’ll try to do better 😀
